Network Basics
What is TIS-BUS?
TIS BUS is an advanced RS485 topology. Using Cat5e or Cat6e data cable, all TIS devices become connected in the BUS protocol. Each TIS BUS product has a unique address with specific Subnet ID & Device ID
The maximum cable length within a subnet is 1.2Km
Note that you need to consider the voltage drop at the end of cable, power supply, and network topology which is hand in hand or star.
What is Subnet?
Max device totality within a subnet is 64. If you have more than 64 Bus devices, use IP-COM-PORT. Even though our driver can run 255 devices on one subnet, we recommend that you do not connect more than 32 devices on one subnet for power supply sufficiency and communication efficiency purposes.
Which Topology is Suitable for BUS Protocol?
We can use any topology to connect TIS-BUS
More Information about Topology
TIS BUS protocol has a very flexible connectivity. It primarily uses a daisy chain, and it can be either an open or closed loop/ring or star topology wiring. We recommend to connect devices hand in hand in small projects
In big projects, it is recommended that the installer links several BUS loops together using network bridges (TIS-IP-PORT). Using this method, up to 65280 devices per network can be smoothly linked.
IP-COM-PORT, A Perfect Gateway
- Uses UDP (group broadcast, default port 6000) protocol to pack and unpack the data stream that flows between TIS BUS and Ethernet, and supports A, B and C class IP.
- Ideal for fast intelligent data exchange (router) between the Subnet, big network, integration with other system, managing and monitoring the system, program for the devices on the bus.
- Ideal for sending data stream in twisted pair busy checking, sending serial data, receiving data stream, checking if the received data is destroyed. In system, there is no master or slave device, it is a distributed system, any devices in bus can send command by needs.
- All messages come from TIS BUS will be transferred to Net/IP network unconditionally.
- The messages come from Net/IP network will be transferred to TIS BUS if the destination subnet ID of the message matches the subnet ID of the gateway (IP-COM-PORT) or the destination ID of the message is a broadcast subnet ID (255). This mechanism can improve the efficiency of communication.
Don’t Loop 2 Sub Networks by BUS Cable
The IP-COM-PORT links each sub network (BUS looped products) togother to make it as one.
Don’t loop 2 Sub networks by BUS cable! Each BUS newtwok should be linked by Ethernet network through IP Com Port Ethernet connection not the TIS BUS Connection!
Power Supply Calculation
Power Supply
TIS Power Supply output is 24V DC /1.5A
- The TIS BUS engine can work across a wide range between 12-32 volts. Moreover, it is considered green because it only consumes 30-50mA for most devices during operation.
- It also has several lines of protection, including reverse polarity protection, short circuit protection, overload protection, overheat protection, and more.
Because each device has a specific current consumption, you need to calculate the sum of the current consumed for all the devices on a BUS network, then divide it by 1500 mA.
(1500 mA is the output of the TIS 1.5A power supply)
The final result is the amount of power supply you need for BUS network.
Current Consumption Table (mA)
TOTAL CURRENT CONSUMPTION (TCC) = 47,80+11,60+83,80+93,60 = 236,8 mA
236,8/1500 =0,157
0 < 0,157 < 1 : We need 1 power supply
for exemple, if TCC/1500 =3,20 , 3 < 3,20 < 4 then we need 4 power supplies

Don’t Loop Power Supplies!
Instead, add more than one power supply modules in one subnet
Important Installation Tips
Different brand cables have different resistivity. Always remember; the less the better. Please confirm the resistivity of cable. If the typical resistivity of CAT5e cable is about 5 Ohms, it is good
The maximum cable length within a subnet is 1.2Km. Note that you need to consider the voltage drop at the end of cable and power supply in the network topology which is hand in hand or star.
Each pair of Cat5e twisted pairs will need to handle a current of 2A @ 24v (best case scenario). That is why adding more the 2.5A power supply will be useless.
Only use Cat5e or Cat6 cable for dry contact connections. Using other wires will lead to false triggering across dry (digital) inputs.
