Select The Right Junction Box
You need to offer products that fit the standard junction box in the country where the project is located. Always remember that some products need a special type of junction box
Usually the standard junction box is divided into 4 types:
US, UK, EU, IT
European Junction Box
This box is used in most of European countries except Italy, Balkans, UK and Ireland. It also is available in many countries in Africa and Central Asia.
Most of TIS panels such as Luna, Mars, Terre, IO, Venera, Mercury, Dione, and Saturn 5.7 are installed into this box type.
Also modules such as ACM Zigbee relay, and shutter and dimmer modules fit the EU junction box.
UK Junction Box
This box is used in the UK, Ireland, GCC, India, Pakistan, and some other countries in Africa Asia and Carrabin.
Most of the TIS panels such as Luna, Mars, Terre, Titan, IO, Venera, Mercury, Dione, Saturn, and SOL are installed into this box type.
Also modules such as ACM, 4DI (4 zone input), Zigbee relay, shutter and dimmer modules fit the UK junction box.
US Junction Box
This type of back box is used in North and South America, Australia, New Zeeland, South Africa and a few other countries.
The TIS panels that fit the US box are Luna, Mars, Titania, IO, Venera and Saturn 5.7.
Also modules such as ACM, Zigbee relay, shutter and dimmer modules are installed into this box type.
Italian Junction Box
This box is used in countries such as Italy, Balkan domain, Egypt, Libya, and a number of countries in the Middle East.
TIS panels that fit the US box are Venera, Luna, Luna hotel series, and IO 8 gang.
Also some modules such as ACM, Zigbee relay, and shutter and dimmer modules are installed into this box type.
Jointed Boxes for 2/3/4 Gang Products
Some TIS series come with covers that fit special box types. It means you need to go for jointed box combinations.
For Terre 2/3/4 covers, you will need to link the EU boxes together.
For Sol 2 gang cover, you need to use a doubled UK box scheme.
For Mercury 2/3/4 covers, you will need to leave a gap between each box.
Special Junction Box
Some TIS products have their specific junction box. The 13” screen and door phone products are some examples.
Our electrical distributor box is another product that needs a special junction box.
The best thing is to arrange the box type earlier in the construction stage.
Note: If a customer prefers to use a TIS product that does not fit your available electrical box, it is your responsibility to provide the suitable box for the project.
Where to Install the Junction Box?
The location of a back box depends on two factors.
1- Type of the product
2- The standards for box height in the country of the project
Remember;
Thermostatic panels and LCD-equipped switches need to be installed at a high spot on the wall. Light switches can be installed at a lower spot.
Remember;
Always consider the distance between the Finished Floor Level (FFL) to the Center Line (CL) of the box.
Where to Install the Junction Box?
Our recommended measures are:
130-140 cm for:
panel with LCD, OLED
110-120 cm for:
Light switches
For sockets and plugs, you need to consider the standards in the country of the project.
Junction Box Installation Steps
1. Mount the box in the right spot with the proper height.
2. Install the conduits.
3. Arrange the cable/wires based on TIS smart home instructions.
4. Mark cables with a name or number and put a cable clamp on each.
5. Use plastic sheets or covers to secure the cables from cement or paint.
Types of Data Cable
A data cable (Cat5e or Cat6) is needed for:
- All the products operating on the TIS BUS network such as wall panels, sensors and modules
- All TIS touch-screen panels, door phones and camera
- Linking dry (digital) inputs to the switches or sensors
Note:
It is possible to use the KNX 4 cables instead of Cat5e or Cat6 cables.
Types of Wires
Electrical Wires
These are used for connecting lights, shutters, and high-voltage modules and appliances to power.
Remember;
You need to follow the regulations related to standard electrical wire size in the country of the project.
Type of Wires
Audio Cable
These are used to connect speakers to TIS amplifiers.
Distributor Box Arrangement
You need to arrange the cables with clear and organized labels and terminals for installation stage.
Remember;
You need to do the labelling at this stage so that you can have convenient, fast and easy installation and troubleshooting in the following stages.
